Adler Comprehensive Chiropractic in Roswell, Ga, is proud to offer Custom Orthotics.
Orthotics are small custom shoe/foot inserts that fit in most shoes and boots to provide support for weak or unstable structures of the feet and ankles. These devices will not only relieve pain but also create stability.
Many types of custom orthotics are available:
Generic – these orthotics can be found in stores (pharmacies, sporting goods) and where they can be helpful, they are not specific and they are generally made of foam or gels that don’t offer the necessary support. They also tend to have a short lifespan.
Custom – rigid. These orthotics are generally custom-made but have specific uses. Rigid orthotics will force the foot into a position and won’t allow for much or any functional movement. These kinds of orthotics can be most effective for post-surgical alterations made to the foot, advanced arthritis, or other severe conditions. From a neurological standpoint, they reduce the input from the foot to the brain and can cause compensations that can exacerbate other conditions.
Custom semi-rigid: These orthotics are the type that are produced in our office. The procedure is simple, we have the patient walk across a sensor-filled mat to take readings of how the foot is moving through the gait and where functional support is needed. These orthotics are superior for not only foot pain relief but also full functional support. This corrective support can drastically reduce pain in the lower extremity(foot/ankle/knee), pelvis, and lower back, and even have a beneficial effect on the neck. This is called a kinetic chain. What happens at the feet affects the function of the rest of the skeleton.
Another benefit of custom-made orthotics is the reduction in the amount of care that is often prescribed.

In our office, we scan all of our new patients using our 3D motion foot scanner. In real-time, we can assess how stable the foot is and how it may contribute to full-body instability.
Since your feet are the literal foundation of your body they have an important role in creating a stable, mobile, and functional foundation. It is important to understand how weakness or instability in the feet can cause lower extremity problems and symptoms. These same instabilities can create issues throughout the entire spine both structurally and neurologically.
